During the 1960s, as the club moved forward from the Munich disaster and the Busby Babes era, manager Matt Busby thought a new nickname was appropriate. The shield in United’s crest used to feature the Manchester city arms-a sailing ship on top and three diagonal stripes below. The balls are placed between the semicircular frames with the words “Manchester United Football Club.” At the bottom is the devil with crowns and a staff, a reflection of the nickname Red Devils.This implies the spirit of the devil is solidly behind the club and it will be difficult for them to lose their glory.
